Oh, That Salvation Would Come

God looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. Everyone has turned away, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! (Psalm 53:2-3, 6, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Sometimes, you just have to connect the dots. “Any who understand…[or] seek God? Everyone has turned away…no one who does good. Oh, that salvation…would come!” Question? Statement. Exclamation! Somewhat separated in the text, yet each flows naturally from the other. That’s how God’s Word works, from the first verse of Genesis to the last verse of Revelation. Connect the dots.

The question is rhetorical. The statement is true. The exclamation was a desperate plea for imminent deliverance. But it was also a prescient plea for eternal deliverance. And when the time was right, the exclamation became a praise, for salvation did come in the person of Jesus Christ.

My Advice“You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly [corrupt]. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man [who does good] someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ [came out of Zion and] died for us.” (Romans 5:6-8, NIV 1984).

It would be a shame if we did not come to Christ, since He came for us.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
