Turns Away Wrath, Commends Knowledge

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly. The lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so the hearts of fools. (Proverbs 15:1-2, 7, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Careless words, words said in haste or in a moment of anger are rarely “gentle” or “wise.” Whether they are spoken, shared on social media, or disseminated in some other fashion. Rather than “[turning] away wrath,” they usually “[stir] up anger.

My Advice – Guard your mouth (pen, keyboard). “My dear [readers], take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.” (James 1:19, 3:10, NIV 1984). Guess which one “should not be.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
