I Will Teach Them

“Do men make their own gods? Yes, but they are not gods! Therefore, I will teach them— this time I will teach them my power and might. Then they will know that my name is the Lord.” (Jeremiah 16:20–21, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Though there are still cultures in the world that worship many “gods,” that is largely not the case in the western world. There is either one God and many paths, no gods and no path, or One God and one path. A time is coming, when the One true God “will teach them [His] power and might. Then they will know” the truth – One God, one path.

My Advice“Look, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of Him. So shall it be! Amen.” (Revelation 1:7, NIV 1984). It is best to “see Him” for who He is now, rather than when He comes “with the clouds.” To know Him through grace, rather than being taught by His “power and might.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.

  1. My son (21) and I were just discussing this idea yesterday. There is one God but are there many paths (free will) that we could take and only one path (predestined) following His ultimate good plan for our lives? It is a hot debate. Is there one predetermined path for all of us according to God’s good plan for our lives and for His glory that we fall off of often? It’s hard for me to put into words with my very intellectual son, so your thoughts above are helpful. Thank you. Blessings today.

    1. Hello Heidi. First off, thanks for your comments. I think there are two separate topics here. First topic, how many paths to God, or salvation? This is a hot debate in the culture, but not among Christians. The Scriptures (John 14:6 and Acts 4:12) are explicit that there is only one path/way and that is through in Jesus Christ alone. Second topic, is salvation predetermined (predestination) for the elect (also called election) or is it a matter of free-will? This continues to be fervently debated among Christians as the answer is not as explicit. I did a seven-part blog on this under the “Predestination” section of my musings. It is based upon lectures by R.C. Sproul. This is an extremely good listen on Audible. I think your son would enjoy it because Sproul is not only a gifted Theologian, but he is also a brilliant Philosopher. Let me know what you think.

      1. Thank you! I will look for your blog posts on predestination. It is one of those things that I can shrug my shoulders and say “whatever, all that matters is that I love and know God.” My son, however, needs to understand and rationalize these things. I have listened to many of RC Sproul’s lectures. I will look for those on predestination as well. Thank you! Have a wonderful day. Keep the musings coming. 🙂
