Midnight Is Coming

“As long as it is day, we must do the work of Him who sent me. [Midnight] is coming, when no one can work.” (John 9:4, NIV 1984).

My Musings – “Is the end of the world getting closer? We’ll know more next week. Scientists will let us know whether or not the time of the historic “Doomsday Clock” will be adjusted. Now [it is] at 89 seconds to midnight. The closer to a setting of midnight, the closer it is estimated that a global disaster will occur. Scientists created the clock in 1947 using the imagery of apocalypse (midnight) and the contemporary idiom of nuclear explosion (countdown to zero), to convey threats to humanity and the Earth.” (Doyle Rice, USA Today, January 21, 2026).

In reality, “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” (Matthew 24:36, NIV 1984). But we “must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when [we] do not expect him.” (Matthew 24:44, NIV 1984). Regardless of what events are causing adjustments to the “Doomsday Clock.” “See to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.” (Matthew 24:6, NIV 1984).

“The bridegroom [has been] a long time in coming…[do not become] drowsy and [fall] asleep. [For] at midnight the cry [will ring] out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!'” (Matthew 25:5–6, NIV 1984). The important question is not when He will come. It is, when He comes will we be ready to “come out to meet Him?”

My Advice – We do not know how “imminent” the “Doomsday Clock” is. But it will only be doomsday for those who are not ready. Do not wait until “[we] see all these things, [to] know that it is near, right at the door.” (Matthew 24:33, NIV 1984). For “I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:2, NIV 1984). Now is the only “day or hour” we can be certain about. It may be the only “day or hour” we have to get ready. ““See to it that you are not alarmed” by being ready.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
