Timing & Patience & Faith – Oh My!
Numbers 11:23 – The Lord answered Moses, “Is the Lord’s arm too short?” (NIV 1978)
My Musing – We worry and fret. We whine and complain. How is God going to do this or take care of that? Do we really think that God is incapable or too distant to make all things work for the good?
My Advice – Never underestimate God’s ability and willingness to see you through the most challenging and frustrating of times. Where you may see impossibility, God sees not just possibility but certainty. It is just a matter of timing, patience and faith. Trust God. He will never disappoint.
Waiting For Instructions
Numbers 9:8 – Moses answered them, “Wait until I find out what the Lord commands concerning you.” (NIV 1978)
My Musing – God wants to guide us and direct our steps. But we get in a hurry and get out in front of Him before He can clear the way for us. Or, we go in a direction that He never intended and we run into trouble that He would not have led us into if we waited.
My Advice – There will be many times in life that you will not want to wait. You will be eager to do this or that and grow impatient with inaction. But you will make fewer mistakes in life if you seek God’s will before rushing to judgment or action.
Our Family Album
Today, I am starting a new “mid-week” musing series, which will continue each Wednesday for a few weeks. It will be excerpts from a book I wrote in 2012 about our family experiences. Our story has been somewhat unique, although I guess when you think about it every family’s story is unique. At any rate, I wanted to share some insight into the backstory of my musings. Perhaps you will find it interesting. If not, you can always skips Wednesdays.

Joshua 24:14-15 – “Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness…But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” (NIV 1984)
In many respects, Our Family Album is no different than most. Proudly displayed in its pages are pictures that celebrate Continue reading “Our Family Album”
Grow In Holiness
Leviticus 11:44 – “I am the Lord your God, consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am Holy.” (NIV 1978)
My Musing – We cannot be holy in the absolute sense that God is. But we should make every effort to develop in holiness as we grow in Christ.
My Advice – You were saved by grace. That secured your salvation and made you a son of God. That is your position which cannot change. Now, be an imitator of God and of His holiness, as you grow in the faith. This is your character, which develops over time.
Second Guessing God
Exodus 13:17 – When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, “If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” (NIV 1978)
My Musing – We are often perplexed by the route that God takes us. We may think that our way is better, shorter or faster. But God, who knows the beginning from the end, who knows what might happen if we take another way, always knows what is best for us. He is interested in us making it to the destination. The trip may be long, but it will be sure.
My Advice – Do not second guess where God leads you. He sees and knows things that we cannot. Trust Him to lead you right, even if it seems wrong or does not make sense to you. In the end, you will see He was right and how much sense it made after all.
Genesis 12:1 – The Lord said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to a land I will show you.” (NIV 1978)
My Musing – We always want God to show us what His will is and cannot understand when he “fails” to do so. Sometimes it is because we still want to hang onto what we have; not realizing that we cannot take hold of what He wants to bless us with if our hands are already full. He will show us, if we are willing to let go.
My Advice – Receiving God’s blessings will sometimes mean letting go of something we are clinging to. It may not be as dramatic as Abram’s story, but will most likely fall into one of two categories. The blessings He wants to give us are greater than what we have or He cannot bless us because what we are hanging onto is not good to begin with. Be willing to let go.
