Listen To Your Heart

Listen To Your Heart

Deuteronomy 30:11, 14 –  “Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.” (NIV 1978)

My Musing – God does not command anything that He does not put into our heart to be able to do. That is the reason that it is not too difficult or beyond our reach.

My Advice – Listen to your heart. God has put into it His desires. Follow those desires and you will always do what is right and just. Doing what is right and just will always be within your reach and will be easier than you think.

Do Not Be Faint-Hearted

Do Not Be Faint-Hearted

Deuteronomy 20:3, 4“Do not be faint-hearted or afraid; do not be terrified or give way to panic before them. For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.” (NIV 1978)

My Musing – No matter what kind of foe we face, we need not be afraid because God goes with us to fight for us.

My Advice – Be confident. You are a child of God and He will always be with you. You may face much opposition, but He who is in you is greater than any opposition you will ever face.

Consider The Consequences

Consider The Consequences

A couple weeks ago, the Sunday amusing was entitled “Consider The Possibilities.” Seriously considering the possibilities inevitably leads to a decision as to which of the possibilities one believes and chooses to follow.  But what if one chooses wrong?

Amusing 20171022

For this, one must consider the consequences if they are wrong.

The Shepherd – “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.”

The Sheep – “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.’ ”

The Goats – “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.’ “

The Consequences – “Then they [the goats] will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous [the sheep] to eternal life.”

(Excerpts from Matthew 25:31–46, NIV 1984).

These are the words of Jesus.  The same Jesus who said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6, NIV 1984)

The sheep come to the Father through Jesus.  The goats do not. If the sheep are wrong about God and Jesus, it matters little.  There is no hell, or hereafter.  From dust we came and to dust we return, along with the goats.  On the other hand, if the goats are wrong, it matters much.  Death is not the end, but eternal punishment for the goats, but eternal life for the sheep.   If Jesus is right about being the only way to the Father He is also right about the consequences.

In the words of Snoopy, “has it ever occurred to you that you might be wrong?”  You want to be right about this one.

Learn Spiritual Wisdom

Step 7: Learn Spiritual Wisdom
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all. (James 1:5)

A: Discovering the Truth

Wisdom 1

B. Exploring the Truth

We are wise once we begin to realize that the wisdom, scholarship and philosophy that the world affords are foolishness in the eyes of God. Leaning on our own understanding, which is frequently based upon these things, can lead us down crooked paths or detour us altogether. But trusting in God and acknowledging that His wisdom and guidance Continue reading “Learn Spiritual Wisdom”

In Proportion

In Proportion

Deuteronomy 16:17No man should appear before the Lord empty-handed. Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way the Lord has blessed you. (NIV 1978)

My Musing – We all have an obligation to give back to the Lord from what He has blessed us with. We should not do this grudgingly, because all we have is from Him to begin with.

My Advice – Always remember where your success and prosperity is from, and give back to God. Be generous because He has been generous to you.

Enduring Word

Enduring Word

Deuteronomy 6:6, 7These commandments that that I give to you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. (NIV 1978)

My Musing – We usually find time to talk about the great movie we just saw, the incredible sporting event we just witnessed, or whatever the latest gossip is. We should be more eager to talk about God’s word. Movies are forgotten, sports teams rise and fall and gossip is discredited. God’s Word stands forever.

My Advice – Make God’s Word a priority in your life. Make time to read it, study it and meditate on it. Apply it to whatever circumstance you are facing at the time. You may be surprised to find out just how relevant His Word is to the very situation you are facing.

All About Eve

All About Eve
“Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of…” (Genesis 3:20, NIV)

Eileen 1

Not long after Eileen and I started dating, my mom called me aside one evening with some information that she thought I should know. Eileen’s mom had confided to my mom that Eileen was diabetic. Eileen had not yet worked up the nerve to tell me herself, but my mom thought I should know it in case some diabetic complications were to occur while Eileen and I were out on a date.

At that time I knew of diabetes but not much about diabetes. So I decided that I needed to learn a little more. Continue reading “All About Eve”
