Make the Call

“The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.” For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”  (Romans 10:8–13, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Believing, in and of itself, cannot save. “Even the demons believe…shudder.”  (James 2:19, NIV 1984).  They believe in their “mind,” but not in their heart.  Without heart belief, there is no justification. “For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified.” And they certainly will not confess with their mouth that “Jesus is Lord.”  They made an irreversible choice ages ago and chose Lucifer as their “lord.” But as long was we have breath, we can confess with our mouth and be saved.  You see, the fall of man is not irreversible, because Jesus went to the cross to reverse the curse, and “God raised Him from the dead.

My Advice – Saved from what?  “I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”  (Revelation 20:11–15, NIV 1984).

This need not be your destiny.  “The Word is near you.” Believe in your heart that God raised [Jesus] from the dead.” “Confess with your mouth, .Jesus is Lord.” For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”  Saved from all that.  Make the call.  You know the number.  It’s toll free.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
