My Musings – I started my musings in August 2017, and since then have posted 1,791 blogs. Sometimes, I wonder if I have started to repeat myself. Sometimes, I wonder if I have started to repeat myself. It was beginning to trouble me somewhat, until we studied Philippians 4 in the Sunday small group (us “old school” guys used to call it Sunday school) I attend. Now I am a little less troubled by it, but I don’t know about my “regular” readers. They may still be troubled by it. But mostly, I think it is more of a “safeguard” to me than anyone else. I know that God “speaks” to me when I am writing my blogs, even if He has to repeat things to me. Maybe that was His intent all along, and He is letting you “listen” in.
But when you think about it, it is not all that unusual or troubling. Why do we have a tendency to haunt the same old favorite restaurants (back when we could do that) and order the same old favorites when there are plenty of other items on the menu? Why is it “necessary” for us to periodically re-watch our favorite movies again and again, particularly at Christmas time? Why is it that some people return to the same old vacation spot year after year when there is still plenty to see “in the USA from their Chevrolet?” Why is it, that in a closet full of clothes, some (our favorites) are looking more worn than others?
If you can identify with some or all of these questions with me, we should count our blessings. For many the same old meal is a another bowl of rice, if that. They’ve never seen a movie, because they’re too busy carving out a meager life for themselves to even think about being entertained by some actor’s make believe life. Some have never ventured more than a few miles from their home or work, because making that life leaves no time for a vacation, much less the funds necessary to take one. Many in the world do not have a closet for clothes, and if they did would have nothing extra to hang in it. Their clothes are worn because they’re always worn (don’t you just love the English language?).
But more important than all of these, is that there is a “a great multitude [too great to count], from every nation, tribe, people and language” that have never even heard one portion of the Word even one time. That should give us pause. And sadly, there are countless others that have heard the Word numerous times and yet do not want to be bothered with it.
My Advice – Count your blessings. And as a safeguard for those you care about and your neighbors, do not consider it a trouble to tell them the old, old story one more time (or for the first time). And who is our neighbor….?
For my part, I fear I have been way too complacent, comfortable and self-absorbed.
