All Go to the Same Place?

Man has no advantage over the animal. Everything is meaningless. All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return. Who knows if the spirit of man rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth? (Ecclesiastes 3:19–21, NIV 1984).

My Musings – The Abyss. Hades. Or is it Sheol? Maybe Torments? The grave. Lake of Fire or Hell? Confused? It might (?) look like this.

Paradise. Abraham’s Bosom. Highest Heaven. Third Heaven. Often vague and mysterious. Even more confused? How about this?

Sometimes used interchangeably as if they meant the same thing. How does one put it all together? Might it look like this?

Who knows” what it really looks like? God knows. Maybe it is not important for us to know beyond two undeniable facts.

There is a Heaven. “If it were not so, I [Jesus] would have told you.” (John 14:2, NIV 1984).

There is a Hell. “He [Jesus] will say to those on his left, [the lost] ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.'” (Matthew 25:41, NIV 1984).

My Advice – Oh yes. Here are a few other undeniable facts.

Nowhere Else to Go. You will end up spending all eternity in one of these two places. “The spirit of [the saved] rises upward [to Heaven] and the spirit of the [lost] goes down [to Hell]. There is nowhere else to go.

Only Way Up. “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father [and Heaven] except through me.'” John 14:6–7, NIV 1984). Any and all other paths lead down.

Your Destination is Up to You. “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13, NIV 1984). And it is totally free. Jesus paid the price of admission.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
