Be Prepared To Suffer With Christ

Step 9: Be Prepared To Suffer With Christ
I want to know Christ and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in His suffering. (Philippians 3:10)

A: Discovering the Truth

Suffer 1

B. Exploring the Truth

Trials and suffering should not catch us off guard. Nor should we consider it strange when we do encounter them. For Jesus very clearly told us we would encounter persecution in this world, simply because we were His followers. Continue reading “Be Prepared To Suffer With Christ”

Be Engaged With The Church

Step 8: Be Engaged With The Church
In Christ, we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. (Romans 12:5)

A: Discovering the Truth

Church 1

B. Exploring the Truth

God has characterized the Church as a body. Like a body the Church is made up of many members, yet it forms a whole. If one part is missing the whole body suffers. An ear can, to some degree, compensate for the loss of the eyes, but the whole person will suffer nonetheless for the loss of the eyes. So it is with the Church. It functions better as a whole, if all of the members are accounted for and functioning in harmony with the rest of the members. Continue reading “Be Engaged With The Church”

Learn Spiritual Wisdom

Step 7: Learn Spiritual Wisdom
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all. (James 1:5)

A: Discovering the Truth

Wisdom 1

B. Exploring the Truth

We are wise once we begin to realize that the wisdom, scholarship and philosophy that the world affords are foolishness in the eyes of God. Leaning on our own understanding, which is frequently based upon these things, can lead us down crooked paths or detour us altogether. But trusting in God and acknowledging that His wisdom and guidance Continue reading “Learn Spiritual Wisdom”

Pray On All Occasions

Step 6: Pray On All Occasions
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. (Ephesians 6:18)

A: Discovering the Truth

Pray 1

B. Exploring the Truth

The truth is, we would never dream of imposing upon someone with stature, such as the President of the United States, with urgent personal requests or patronizing platitudes that do little more than burn up oxygen and squander his or her valuable time, even if we did have a personal relationship with them. Yet much too often this is all that our prayer life consists of. We are passionate when the communication is important to us (urgent requests) and passionless when it is not (dry recitations). What kind of relationship is it when it is one-way? Continue reading “Pray On All Occasions”

Illuminated By The Word

Step 5 – Illuminated By The Word
Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119:105)

A: Discovering the Truth

Word 1

We live in the information age, nearly to the point of information overload. Much of the information we receive we can clearly distinguish as false or not to be trusted, and we easily dismiss or discard it. Some of the information we receive seems to contradict what we have grown up believing, but so many others believe in and swear by it, sometimes with such great passion and credibility, that we can hardly see how it could be wrong. Still other information seems innocent and appealing, almost to the extent of “having a form of Godliness” and yet we wonder if it can be trusted. How then do we decide what is truth? Continue reading “Illuminated By The Word”

A Servant’s Role

Step 4 – A Servant’s Role
Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know
that your laboring the Lord is not in vain. (1 Corinthians 15:58)

A: Discovering the Truth

Servant 1

When we first accept Christ our fervor to serve Him is usually high. But strangely enough, Continue reading “A Servant’s Role”

A Spirit-Led Lifestyle

Step 3 – A Spirit-Led Lifestyle
“I will put My Spirit in you and move you to follow My decrees and be careful to keep My laws.” (Ezekiel 36:27)

A: Discovering the Truth

Spirit 1

The Holy Spirit is perhaps the least understood and the most unappreciated person of the Trinity. But He is just as much part of the Godhead as is the Father and the Son. He is a personal being, not some impersonal force or vague presence. To believers, He plays an indispensable role. So much so, Continue reading “A Spirit-Led Lifestyle”
