Ready Or Not

Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. (1 Corinthians 15:51–52, NIV 1984).

“Therefore, keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So, you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.” (Matthew 24:42–44, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Life is full of surprises. The unexpected. I’d say unlike any other time in history, perhaps, Christians are expecting the very return of Christ. For the most part we have preconceived ideas of how that will unfold, and we might be surprised at how it actually will.

Expecting His soon return and being prepared for His return, of course, are two different things. I think I’d much rather be surprised at how His return unfolds that be unprepared when He does. There are those that are unprepared because they do not know Him. Then there are those that are unprepared because they are not living like they should or have not matured in the faith like they should.

My Advice – Whichever group you fall into, it’s time to make preparations. Whether His return (or His summons for you) is near or far. What we know is that He will return. We just don’t know when. Let’s not be afraid or embarrassed when He does.
