Can We Understand & Know God?

Jeremiah 9:23, 24“Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord. (NIV 1978)

My Musings – We often boast about the wrong things. We are foolish to boast about our wisdom. It is a weakness in our character to boast about our strength. And our values are bankrupt if we boast about our riches. Knowing and understanding God is all the wisdom, strength and riches that we will ever need.

My Advice – Do not rely too much on your education, physical health, strength, or the possessions that you acquire in life. They cannot delight as much as kindness, justice and righteousness. If you understand the value of these, you begin to know and understand the character of God.

Not In The Fight Alone

Jeremiah 1:19 – “They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord. (NIV 1978)

My Musings – We are not promised a strife-free life. What we are promised is that God will be with us and will see us through the strife.

My Advice – There will be many battles in life. Rest assured that you will not be overcome. God will always be with you and will rescue you. It may seem slow to you at times, but it will be certain.

Stay Near

Isaiah 55:6 – Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him while He is near. (NIV 1978)

My Musings – God is as near to us as we allow. He is easily found if we seek him before drifting too far away from Him. We have trouble finding Him because we wander away. Our cry for help need not be too loud if we have not wandered too far away.

My Advice – When you find yourself out of God’s favor, remember that it is you who strayed away, not Him. Seek restoration sooner rather than later, otherwise you will continue to drift further away and the road back will be harder to find.

Walk This Way

Isaiah 30:21 – Whether you turn to the right or left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”  (NIV 1978)

My Musings – If we turn the right way, the voice affirms us – “yes, you’re going the right way.” If we turn the wrong way, the voice corrects us – “turn around, you’re going the wrong way.” We need to pay attention.

My Advice – You will face many decisions in your life. For many, it will not be readily apparent to you which way to choose. You may get advice from many different sources. Make sure that you listen carefully for God’s “voice.” It may not be the loudest one. The devil will do all he can to distract and drown out. But you have spiritual ears that can hear through anything Satan throws at you.

Lip Service

Isaiah 29:13 – The Lord says, “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” (NIV 1978)

My Musings – We pay a lot of lip-service to God, but all too often it is not backed up by a heart that is sincere.

My Advice – Keep your heart set on God. Do not just talk the talk. Make sure you walk the walk, with a heart that is firmly set on obeying and serving God.

Spirit-Led Lifestyle

Galatians 5:25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. (NIV 1984)

My Musings – The Holy Spirit is perhaps the least understood and the most unappreciated person of the Trinity. But He is just as much part of the Godhead as is the Father and the Son. He is a personal being, not some impersonal force or vague presence. To believers, He plays an indispensable role. So much so, that even Jesus said it was to our benefit that He (Jesus) should depart, so that the Holy Spirit could come. This is because the Holy Spirit does so much for us. Among other things, He Continue reading “Spirit-Led Lifestyle”

The Sixth Bowl

THE SIXTH BOWLThe sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up to prepare the way for the kings from the East. Then I saw three evil spirits that looked like frogs; they came out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet. They are spirits of demons performing miraculous signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty. “Behold, I come like a thief! Blessed is he who stays awake and keeps his clothes with him, so that he may not go naked and be shamefully exposed.” Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon. (Revelation 16:12-16)
