1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 – Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (NIV 1984)
In the middle of a forest, there was a hunter who was suddenly confronted by a huge, mean bear. In his fear, all attempts to shoot the bear were unsuccessful. Continue reading “Giving Thanks”
Step 2 – A Christ-Like Attitude
“Learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart.” (Matthew 11:29)
A: Discovering the Truth
It seems almost contradictory that the Creator of the universe, exhibiting the fullness of God, with everything under His power, would choose the role of a servant. Knowing that everything was under His power He could have exercised that power. Instead He set the example of a servant. If He, the Master, prefers to serve, how can we, the servant, choose anything else? Continue reading “A Christ-Like Attitude”
Walking In Trust
Exodus 23:20 – “See. I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.” (NIV 1978)
My Musing – The way before us may seem dark and uncertain. But if we are walking with Christ, we can be certain that we are nonetheless walking in the light and will come to the place He has prepared for us.
My Advice – Do not feel like you need to know all of the directions or even the destination. Simply trust Him when He tells you to go and go in the direction that He sends you.
Take A Stand
Exodus 23:2 – “Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong.” (NIV 1978)
My Musing – We know what is right and what is wrong. God has put it in our heart and He speaks to us through His Holy Spirit. But it seems so hard to do what is right when everyone else is doing what is wrong. But morality is not a democracy. No matter how many may call a wrong right, it will not make it right.
My Advice – Be courageous. Do not be timid in taking your stand even when everyone else is against you. If you know in your heart it is right, God will give you the strength to stand against all odds. If God is for you, who can be against you?
Stand Firm & Be Still
Exodus 14:13, 14 – Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only be still.” (NIV 1978)
My Musing – You need only be still. Usually we either flee in fear, or plunge headlong and recklessly into danger. As a result, instead of never seeing the “Egyptians” again, we fail to see the deliverance that God intended.
My Advice – You will face many “Egyptians’ in life’s journey. You need neither face them down alone, nor will you need to flee from their face. Stand firm in the Lord and see how magnificently He delivers you. Once He delivers, you will never see them again. There may be others to take their place, but the God who delivers once, is more than able to deliver time and again.
Second Guessing God
Exodus 13:17 – When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, “If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” (NIV 1978)
My Musing – We are often perplexed by the route that God takes us. We may think that our way is better, shorter or faster. But God, who knows the beginning from the end, who knows what might happen if we take another way, always knows what is best for us. He is interested in us making it to the destination. The trip may be long, but it will be sure.
My Advice – Do not second guess where God leads you. He sees and knows things that we cannot. Trust Him to lead you right, even if it seems wrong or does not make sense to you. In the end, you will see He was right and how much sense it made after all.
Who Gave the Universe It’s Design?
What may be known about God is plain…because God has made it plain… For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. (Romans 1:19-20) All scriptures references are NIV. Continue reading “Who Gave The Universe Its Design?”
