“Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?” (Job 2:10, NIV 1984).
My Musings – This world is not what God created to be. It is what man has made of it. Although God gets blamed for a lot it. I often wonder what would have become of this world if not for God’s restraining hand? What if Jesus never came to make it possible to get what we surrendered in the garden and what we have been making worse ever since back again?
Because of the fall, mankind has encountered all kinds of trouble down through the ages. This is a consequence of the fall. And it will continue with increasing measure until Christ returns and sets things right once and for all. These consequences afflict many, but the many are composed of individual souls. As we struggle with the most recent consequence of the fall (COVID-19), we get lost in the debating the statistics. Perhaps forgetting that the statistics include individual souls. And their families grieve. Cancer has been with us a long time. I just spent the last two days in the hospital for prostrate surgery for cancer. It was caught early and is not aggressive, But many are not so “lucky.” And their families grieve. Just about a week ago, I wrote about my uncle’s death in combat in WWII. The same artillery shell that merely wounded one man, claimed my uncle’s life. That was a horrific war that claimed millions of souls because the “war to end all wars” did not. And their families grieved.
And there will continue to be plagues and pestilence, wars and rumors of war. and the love of many will grow cold (can’t you see it happening?). And “then the end will come.” But the end of what?
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” (Revelation 21:1–5, NIV 1984).
They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore. (Isaiah 2:4, NIV 1984).
My Advice – What’s your “Big C?” Is it the consequences of poor choices in life? Is it COVID-19, cancer, or combat (wars that are going on now or rumored). The only solution to any of these Big C’s is the really big C — the Cross. The “deeper magic” that cancels death.
“It means,” said Aslan, “that though the Witch knew the Deep Magic, there is a magic deeper still which she did not know. Her knowledge goes back only to the dawn of time. But if she could have looked a little further back, into the stillness and the darkness before Time dawned, she would have read there a different incantation. She would have known that when a willing victim who has committed no treachery was killed in a traitor’s stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backward.” (from “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” by C.S. Lewis).
The deeper magic, the Cross, has cracked death itself. The Cross is the Cure. Do you have the cure? You can, you know. Read my blog series “The Born Again Experience.”
