Several days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was a Jewess. He sent for Paul and listened to him as he spoke about faith in Christ Jesus. As Paul discoursed on righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, “That’s enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you.” (Acts 24:24–25, NIV 1984).
See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first. As has just been said: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.” (Hebrews 3:12–15, NIV 1984).
I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation. (2 Corinthians 6:2, NIV 1984).
My Musings – A co-worker shared the following with me: Tomorrow (noun) – A mystical land where ninety-nine percent of all human productivity, motivation and achievement is stored. I might re-write it as: Tomorrow (noun) – A mythical more convenient time where a significant percentage of humans expect to be able to consider, decide and act on Christ’s invitation. Of course, tomorrow often never comes.
My Advice – And though the curse has long be broken, Adam’s sons are still the prisoners of their fears. Rushing helter-skelter to destruction with their fingers in their ears. While the Father’s voice is calling with an urgency I’ve never heard before. “Won’t you come in from the darkness now before it’s time to finally close the door!” (“Adam, Where Are You?” by Don Francisco). “When [we] find it convenient” might be after the door is closed. Then it is too late. All one has to do is see what’s going on in the world today to know that the Father’s voice is growing more and more urgent. Don’t stick your head in the sand or your fingers in your ears. Won’t you come in from the darkness? Now is the most convenient time. Tomorow may be mythical.
