“Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain.” (Psalm 127:1, NIV 1984).
My Musings – Houses (homes, relationships) built on anything other than the Lord last only for a season. You can build it and care for it, but once it’s gone, what’s left? Cities (countries) can crumble and fall in a season no matter how vigilant it is watched over. When it does, what good is your citizenship? If you invest all your time, talent and treasure solely in these things, once they are gone you are essentially bankrupt. It’s not that these things are intrinsically bad, or not worth investing in. It’s just we must not let them consume us to such an extent that they crowd out “His Kingdom and His righteousness.”
My Advice – “Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33, NIV 1984). You won’t be building or guarding in vain.
