Untangling the Web

“To make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery [Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus], which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things. His intent was that now, through the Church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known…according to his eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  (Ephesians 3:6, 9–11, NIV 1984).

My Musings – God promised Abraham, that through his offspring, all nations would be blessed.  What this blessing would be remained a mystery until God chose Paul to make the revelation clear.   Jesus, in His Olivet Discourse proclaimed that “this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:14, NIV 1984).

When Paul began his missionary journeys, I imagine he wondered how this might be accomplished. It may have seemed to him a daunting task.  Today, some 2000 years later, the Joshua Project estimates there are 17,441 people groups in a world with of population of 7.75 billion souls.  Of these, they estimate that 7,407 people groups remain unreached, with an estimated 3.23 billion souls.

Still a seemingly daunting task, for “the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.”  (Matthew 9:37, NIV 1984).  But with God, all thing are possible.  Enter Covid-19, and much of the global Church has gone largely virtual, proclaiming the Word over the “worldwide web.”  Perhaps another mystery unfolding as the end draws near?  Even my modest musings have had  hits from 92 countries around the globe.

While is is clear that the internet is used by many for deceitful and evil purposes, maybe “God [intends] it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”  (Genesis 50:20, NIV 1984).   How ironic that the “domain” of “the prince and power of the air” might be contributing to his downfall.  “And then the end will come.”

My Advice“Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.” (James 3:5, NIV 1984).   Wherever you are, be a spark spreading the “mystery” of the Gospel of Christ.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
