THE COMMISSION – “Write, therefore, what you have seen, what is now and what will take place later. The mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand and of the seven golden lampstands is this: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.” (Revelation 1:19, 20)
The Stars – Stars are symbols of pre-eminence and authority (See Numbers 24:17; Daniel 12:3). False teachers are wandering stars (Jude 13; Isaiah 14:12). Jesus identifies these stars as “Angels,” but the exact meaning of the term as it is used here is uncertain. The following are the principal interpretations:
