Power, Love and Self-Discipline

God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.  So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord…join with me in suffering for the Gospel, by the power of God, who has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. (2 Timothy 1:7–9, NIV 1984). 

My Musings – We need not lack courage or confidence when testifying about the hope we have in Christ Jesus.  Nor do we need to be apologetic.  For the power of the Holy Spirit who dwells within us is at our disposal.  But at the same time we must not come off as cocky, arrogant or “in your face.”  We must season our witness with love and self-discipline.

My Advice – Do “not [be] ashamed of the Gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes.” (Romans 1:16, NIV 1984).  Rather, “make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt.” (Colossians 4:5–6, NIV 1984).  “Speaking the truth in love.” (Ephesians 4:15, NIV 1984).
