The Far Side Of The Sea

“If I go to the east, he is not there; if I go to the west, I do not find him. When he is at work in the north, I do not see him; when he turns to the south, I catch no glimpse of him. But he knows the way that I take.” (Job 23:8–10, NIV 1984).

“Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.” (Psalm 139:7–10, NIV 1984).

“He determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.” (Acts 17:26–28, NIV 1984).

“But if from there [wherever you happen to be] you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.” (Deuteronomy 4:29, NIV 1984).

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:37–39, NIV 1984).

My Musings – I imagine we’ve all had times that we felt that no matter what direction we turned, God was nowhere to be found.  When in reality “He is not far from each one of us.”  He may seem that He is out of our reach, but we are not out of His reach.  We will reach Him (or rather He us), if we “look for him with all [our] heart and with all [our] soul.”  He has arranged it so we can, going so far as to determine “the times set for [us] and the exact places where [we] should live…so that we would seek Him…reach out for Him and find Him.”

And when we find Him, even in our darkest hours and our worst wanderings, “even there [His] hand will guide [us], [His] right hand will hold [us] fast.”  There isn’t “anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  For elsewhere He has said, I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.” (John 10:27–30, NIV 1984).

My Advice – There will likely be times that you don’t seem to know where He is.  But He knows the way you have taken.  Be encouraged. He is not far from you.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
