Who Will You Listen To?

“I [the rich man in Torments] beg you, father [Abraham], send Lazarus [the beggar in Paradise] to my father’s house, for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.” Abraham replied, “They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.” “No, father Abraham,” he said, “but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.” [Abraham] said to him, “If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.” (Luke 16:27–31, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Moses and the prophets unmistakably spoke of the coming Messiah.  But people still do not listen.  Someone did rise from the dead and still people are not convinced.  If they do not listen to Moses, the Prophets or even the Son of God, no testimony, no other Gospel remains.

My Advice – Still, we must testify to the truth (the whole truth and nothing but the truth).  No adding to and no taking away to make the truth more “seeker friendly.” For some will have ears that hear and eyes that see.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
