Terrible Times

People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. (2 Timothy 3:2–5, NIV 1984). 

My Musings – This is about as accurate a depiction of today’s culture (“lovers of themselves…lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God“) and many of today’s “so-called” churches (“having a form of godliness but denying its power“), as could possibly be.  Penned about 2,000 years ago to describe the “terrible times in the last days.” (2 Timothy 3:1, NIV 1984).  Clearly, we are in the “last days.” How close we are to the “end of the age,” may not be as clear, but signs appear to be getting clearer.

My Advice – At the end of the age, standing before God as a lover of pleasure rather than a lover of God, with merely a form of godliness and without the reality of Godliness through the blood of Christ, is not where one wants to be standing.  Time may be very short.  Even if Christ delays, one is not guaranteed one more day.  So, if you have not yet done so, make things right today.  See my “The Born Again Experience” musings.
