Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act. Do not say to your neighbor, “Come back later; I’ll give it tomorrow”— when you now have it with you. (Proverbs 3:27–28, NIV 1984).
My Musings – First, I suspect that more often than not we withhold good, not because it is not in our power to act, and not because we do not have something to share, but rather because we feel (or rationalize) that our “neighbor” is not deserving. Second, I suspect that all too often we have much too narrow a view of who our neighbor is. The parable of the Good Samaritan is most instructive.
