Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment! (James 2:12–14, NIV 1984).

My Musing – We know that we were once in bondage to the law. A law that could give us neither freedom or mercy. So, what then is the law that gives freedom that James is writing about? This law of mercy without judgment? Well it really is not a law without judgment, because Christ bore our judgment in order to provide mercy.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
