Of Course Not!

“You fathers—if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead? Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not! So, if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.” (Luke 11:11–13, NLT 2015).

My Musings – Of course sometimes we ask for empty calories like candy of ice cream, but He gives us nourishing green vegetables. Then we act like we’re getting a snake or a scorpion instead. What we often think is good, is actually not good for us. It may be what we want but is not what we need.

My Advice – Better than any earthly father, God knows what we need and what is best for us. Trust Him. He knows best, even when we think we know better.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
