
“But you his [Nebuchadnezzar] son, O Belshazzar, have not humbled yourself, though you knew all this. Instead, you have set yourself up against the Lord of heaven.” (Daniel 5:22–23, NIV 1984).
My Musings– The saying goes that those who do not remember their history are doomed to repeat it. Here, Belshazzar knew his family history quite well. Yet he repeated the sins of his father. His father was eventually restored. Not so Belshazzar. That very night he was slain and his kingdom fell to the Medes.
In America, we are very well aware of our Judeo Christian heritage. A heritage that served us well for four hundred years (an interesting time span), since 1620. But as a nation, we appear to be largely turning our backs on that heritage. Disclaiming His role as creator, disavowing the validity of His moral laws, and disputing that the way of the cross…
