Why?

Why, as though you still belonged to [the world], do you submit to its rules? Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom…but they lack any value. (Colossians 2:20, 23, NIV 1984).

My Musings – We don’t, you know? We don’t belong to the world. Yet we sometimes submit to its rules as if we did belong. As if they not only appeared wise but were wise. As if instead of lacking value, added value. How typical of fallen man that we think gaining the things of this world are worth the risk of our souls.

My Advice – Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch! You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must rid yourselves of all such [worldly values]. (Colossians 2:21, 3:7–8, NIV 1984).

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
