“If they [the false prophets] had stood in my [the LORD God Almighty] council, they would have proclaimed my words to the people.” (Jeremiah 23:22, NIV 1984).
My Musings – “What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.” (Ecclesiastes 1:9, NIV 1984). “They’re baaaaaaacccck.” What will be is now here. Many “wise and learned Christian” theologians, pastors and teachers are taking their own council these days. Perverting (or outright denying) Holy Scripture and proclaiming their own “words to the people” instead of the words of God.
This is folly. For as we know, “no prophecy of Scripture came about by [any] prophet’s own interpretation” (2 Peter 1:20, NIV 1984). Yet many of the flock, or that might otherwise become part of the flock, are being led astray to “walk in the counsel of [these] wicked [shepherds]” (Psalm 1:1, NIV 1984). “Shepherds who feed only themselves…wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever.” (Jude 12–13, NIV 1984). Or as Paul has stated, “a different gospel…is really no gospel at all.” It “pervert[s] the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!” (Galatians 1:6–8, NIV 1984). Harsh, but necessary words, lest others be led astray.
My Advice – Do not listen to them. Do not follow them. Like the Bereans, you can examine the Scriptures to see if what they have to say is true (Acts 17:11). If you earnestly seek the truth, you will find it. The charlatans will be exposed. You will be set free. And “if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36, NIV 1984).
