Lost And Found, Hide And Seek

This only Have I found; God made mankind upright, but men have gone in search of many schemes. (Ecclesiastes 7:29, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Upright. Decent, ethical, good, honest, honorable, just, moral. That’s how God made us to be. And “it was very good.” What could possibly be missing? What made us think that “very good” was less than perfect and we needed more? Only one thing. The one forbidden thing. One, mind you. But once that one forbidden thing was violated, mankind went “in search of many schemes.”

Scheme. A clever often underhanded means to accomplishing evil or unlawful [forbidden] ends. How did the one become many? Their eyes were opened, and they became aware of not only good, but also evil. Having failed at the first forbidden, we became incapable of resisting the many forbidden. Not just incapable of resisting, mind you. We went in search of means to accomplish all that was forbidden.

My Advice – When mankind gave into the one, uprightness was lost. Beyond its ability to retrieve. But when we went in “search of many schemes,” “the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.” (Luke 19:10, NIV 1984). Don’t hide like Adam and Eve. Allow yourself to be found by the Seeker.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
