Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ. (Galatians 1:10, NIV 1984).
My Musings – Being a servant of Christ, will mean believing and proclaiming things that are not pleasing to man. And all the more as our culture continues its moral decline and standing firm on God’s Word becomes increasingly unpopular. In the face of such opposition, we must always ask ourselves who it is we want to please? Especially when it comes to proclaiming the Gospel of Christ. For the context of the above verse includes this statement from Paul, “if anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!” (Galatians 1:9, NIV 1984). Two truths that are extremely unpopular today — the exclusivity of the Gospel and eternal condemnation.
My Advice – We are called to speak the truth in love. Speaking only what is pleasing to man may be popular and seem loving, but if it is not pleasing to God, there is no way it can be loving. Because the truth is — there is only one Gospel and there is eternal condemnation for those who reject it.
