What benefit did you reap at that time [when you were slaves to sin] from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things [impurity and ever-increasing wickedness] result in death! But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:21–23, NIV 1984).

My Musings – What could we expect to reap when we “were slaves to sin?” Death, “the wages of sin.” What do we expect to reap now that we “have become slaves to God?” Eternal life, “the gift of God.

My Advice – Think you can earn your way to eternal life? Think again.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
