The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. (Deuteronomy 31:8, NIV 1984).
My Musings – What in Heaven’s name is going on in this world of ours? Plenty to make one afraid and discouraged for sure. But not nearly as bad as things will get before the end. But even then, the “LORD Himself” will go before us and be with us. Never leaving us or forsaking us. So there is no need to actually be afraid or discouraged. Unless. Unless what? Unless we are heading somewhere that the LORD cannot go before us. A path that He did not choose for us. Then it is us who have left and forsaken the path He would have us follow. For He cannot be before us unless we are following Him.
My Advice – Context is always important. So we must look at the context of the above passage. “Be strong and courageous, for you must go…into the ‘land’ that the LORD [sends you].” (Deuteronomy 31:7, NIV 1984). Not feeling very strong or courageous?” Are you rather feeling fearful and discouraged? Is there a reason you should be? Not if you’re on the chosen path. If you are not on that path, it’s high time you turned around.
