“If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” (Matthew 6:23, NIV 1984).
My Musings – Take a moment to let that image sink in. The Age of Reason, was an intellectual and cultural movement in the eighteenth century that emphasized reason over superstition and science over blind faith. Perhaps you know it by another name. The Enlightenment.
Now there is nothing wrong with reason or science. And I am certainly not promoting superstition or blind faith. But faith in God and the Gospel of Christ is neither superstition nor blind faith. And anyone who claims that reason and science preclude belief and acceptance of either (God or Christ), are simply blind to who science points to (God the Creator) and what reason can undeniably conclude about Jesus (He was who He said He was, and did what the Bible records He did). And if The Enlightenment led the culture to conclude otherwise, then “how great is that darkness!“
My Advice – “Go and tell this people: ‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding, be ever seeing, but never perceiving.'” (Isaiah 6:9, NIV 1984). “This people” is not who you want to be. You want to be “His” people. And you can be.
