“Of what value is an idol, since a man has carved it? Or an image that teaches lies? For he who makes it trusts in his own creation; he makes idols that cannot speak. Woe to him who says to wood, ‘Come to life! Or to lifeless stone, ‘Wake up!’ Can it give guidance? It is covered with gold and silver; there is no breath in it. But the Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him.” (Habakkuk 2:18–20, NIV 1984).
My Musings – Nowadays, we are much too enlightened and sophisticated to believe in carved idols. But psychics, extraterrestrials, horoscopes, astrology and seances are strangely given a lot more credence than you’d expect from a civilization as “advanced” as ours. These cannot speak to us or give us guidance. What we believe we receive is all lies.
My Advice – If not these things, we trust in a god of our own creation. The creature determining what the Creator should be like. Images in our own likeness. What we would expect Him to be or act. It is us who need to “wake up!” For “the LORD is in His holy temple; let all the earth be silent before Him.”
