Against Whom?

“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” (Matthew 5:11–12, NIV 1984).

“Who is it you have insulted and blasphemed? Against whom have you raised your voice and lifted your eyes in pride? Against the Holy One of Israel! Because you rage against me and because your insolence has reached my ears, I will put my hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth.” (Isaiah 37:23,29, NIV 1984).

My Musings – The insults we receive for being followers of Christ are nothing new. They came against Israel, the prophets and eventually the Son of God Himself. That’s actually pretty good company to keep. And when they insult us, merely for being followers of Christ, they have actually insulted Him. And He takes note.

My Advice – We may be tempted to trade insult for insult and injury for injury. Let’s just leave it in God’s hands.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
