Upgrading Your Wardrobe

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. (Colossians 3:12–14, NIV 1984).

My Musings – What do you think should characterize holy, dearly loved people chosen by God? The things we do? The things we don’t do? How about who we are? While the things we do and do not do are important, they are merely a reflection of who we are. The externals reflect the internals. And what are those internals? “Compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” That’s not a complete sentence, because we are not yet complete. But we are being transformed into His likeness, which is all these things and more. Bound together in love.

My Advice – Focus on these things. What we do and do not do will inevitably follow. But it does not work the other way around. The externals can be faked, but the internals cannot.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
