Linchpin

Happy Thanksgiving! You don’t have to be from the United States to give thanks. You also don’t need a special day.

The Brew Is A Musing

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:16–18, NIV 1984)

My Musings – Linchpin, the most important member of a group or part of a system, that holds together the other members or parts or makes it possible for them to operate as intended.

Always joyful? Impossible! Thankful no matter what? Preposterous! Impossible and preposterous? It is if you miss the linchpin that holds these two thoughts together — Pray continually. Coincidence that it is the middle thought of the three? Not likely.

My Advice – Lost your joy? Pray. Not feeling too thankful? Pray. The next thought in the text? “Do not put out the Spirit’s fire.” (1 Thessalonians 5:19, NIV 1984). One needs to stoke (poke, stir-up, feed) a fire. How? Pray.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
