Deep

This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. (1 John 4:9, NIV 1984).

My Musings – You’ve heard the complaint. “If God is such a loving God, why does /doesn’t He…” God demonstrated His love beyond question through His Son’s death on the cross and resurrection from the dead. No one forced this upon Him, Christ’s love for us compelled Him to do this. “I lay down my life—only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again.” (John 10:17–18, NIV 1984).

My Advice – What else would you have Him do? It is not a question “if God is such a loving God, why…?” It is an exclamation, “for God so loved the world…” (John 3:16, NIV 1984). Don’t question His love, be amazed at His grace.

How deep the Father’s love for us?
How vast beyond all measure?
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure

How great the pain of searing loss?
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory

Behold the man upon a cross
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers

It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished

I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection

Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
