“Do you know the laws of the heavens?” (Job 38:33, NIV 1984).
My Musings – This phrase in nestled amongst a long discourse of God’s about various objects of creation. But what this phrase indicates, there is more to creation than the objects, there is also the underlying laws that govern them. Basically, He is saying to Job, if you know so much, tell me about this or that. With a “smidgen” of righteous sarcasm (“Surely you know, for you were already born!” v. 21) thrown in. Perhaps a bit more than a smidgen (“Who is this that darkens my counsel with words without knowledge? Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me.” vv. 2-3).
If God had this kind of challenge for Job (“Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.” Ch.1 v.8), imagine what choice words He might have for any person of science that postulates about the “laws of heaven” and the design of the cosmos while denying any possibility of the Designer.
My Advice – “Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let him who accuses God answer him!” (Job 40:2, NIV 1984).
