Take This to Heart

Death is the destiny of every man; the living should take this to heart. (Ecclesiastes 7:2, NIV 1984).

My Musings – It is often the case that we worry way too much about our legacy, and not nearly enough about our destiny. Perhaps thinking that we have plenty of time before we need to seriously “take this to heart.” That we will give it more consideration “when [we] find it convenient.” (Acts 24:25, NIV 1984). When, in reality, “[we] do not even know what will happen tomorrow…for [we] are [but] a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” (James 4:14, NIV 1984).

My Advice“Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness [your destiny] …do not worry about [your legacy], for [your legacy] will worry about itself.” (Matthew 6:33–34, NIV 1984). For “what good will it be for a man if he [leaves a tremendous legacy], yet forfeits his [eternal destiny]? (Matthew 16:26, NIV 1984).

The clock is ticking. Our destiny could be sealed at any moment. What good will your legacy do for you then? “Take [that] to heart.” It is something only the living can do.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
