As, So

As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead. (James 2:26, NIV 1984).

My Musings – “As” – to the same degree. To the same degree that a body without the spirit is dead, faith without deeds is dead. “So” – most certainly. Not just certain. Most certain. Pretty serious stuff. Certain can stand on its own. It is either certain or it is not. Can one be more certain? How about most? While deeds cannot bring life, it is the evidence that there is life. So, where there is no evidence, then it is most certainly…

My Advice – Do not look for deeds to save you, they “most certainly” cannot. But “to the same degree,” do not assume you have been saved if there are no deeds.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
