As, So

As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead. (James 2:26, NIV 1984).

My Musings – “As” – to the same degree. To the same degree that a body without the spirit is dead, faith without deeds is dead. “So” – most certainly. Not just certain. Most certain. Pretty serious stuff. Certain can stand on its own. It is either certain or it is not. Can one be more certain? How about most? While deeds cannot bring life, it is the evidence that there is life. My Advice – Do not look for deeds to save you, they “most certainly” cannot. But “to the same degree,” do not assume you have been saved if there are no deeds.
