Who can accuse the people God has chosen? No one, because God is the One who makes them right. Who can say God’s people are guilty? No one, because Christ Jesus died, but he was also raised from the dead, and now he is on God’s right side, appealing to God for us. (Romans 8:33–34, NCV 2005).
My Musings – For my regular readers, you know that I am partial to the NIV. But I chose the NCV for this verse because it provides the obvious answer to the rhetorical questions. “No one.” Who is the Father going to listen to? The accuser or His Son? The Son, and “no one” else.
Who are the chosen? God’s people. Who are God’s people? Those He makes right. How did He make them right? By sending His Son Jesus die for them and by raising Him from the dead. Who did Jesus die for? Whoever believes. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16, NIV 1984).
My Advice – I know who I want making my appeal on Judgement Day. The One who the Father listens to. He can make your appeal too, if you believe in Him. No One else will or can. “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12, NIV 1984).
