Leave Room

The Brew Is A Musing

“Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord.”  (Romans 12:19, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Ours is a culture of revenge instead of avenge. In both instances we have been wronged. To seek revenge is to retaliate in a spirit of resentment and vindictiveness. To avenge is to punish with the intent of seeing that justice is done. The difference between the two is huge. Justice is not possible in a spirit of resentment and vindictiveness.

My Advice – Know the difference, but more importantly, live the difference by leaving it with God.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
