Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. Put away perversity from your mouth; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you. Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm. Do not swerve to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil. (Proverbs 4:23–27, NIV 1984).
My Musings – “Above all else.” Nothing takes precedence. “Guard your heart.” Keep it under close watch in order to prevent misconduct. From things as “minor” as coarse language. It will keep us from taking our eyes from the path God has for us and being side-tracked by the “squirrels” that can so easily captivate us. The straight path is smooth and level, while the detours are full of rough terrain leading to evil.
My Advice – So simple, yet so hard. But “above all else,” this is what we need to do.
