He’s On Our Side

A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. (Proverbs 18:24, NIV 1984).

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. (Deuteronomy, 31:7-8, NIV 1984).

My Musings – There may be times in our lives, where “friends just can’t be found,” though we may have “many companions.” It is at times like these when we can be assured that we still have “a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” No matter how “down and out” we may feel, “He will never leave us nor forsake us.”

My Advice -“When darkness comes, and pains is all around, do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” He is “on your side” and “will be with you.” He laid down His life for us once before, after His companions deserted Him and could not be found. But that is the very reason He will lay Himself down again and again. He died for us. Why would He desert us now?

Bridge Over Troubled Waters

When you’re weary, feeling small,
When tears are in your eyes, I will dry them all;
I’m on your side. when times get rough
And friends just can’t be found,
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.

When you’re down and out,
When you’re on the street,
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you.
I’ll take your part.
When darkness comes
And pains is all around,
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.

If you need a friend
I’m sailing right behind.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
