What’s Our Business?

I have written you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people – not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside. (1 Corinthians 5:9-10, 12–13, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Of course we cannot “leave this world.” But do we isolate ourselves from the world? Of course, “what business is it of [ours] to judge those outside the church?” But do we alienate them through harsh criticism?

My Advice – Our job is to go into (associate with) the world. To be witnesses of what is morally right. To “make disciples…teaching them to obey everything [moral He has] commanded.”

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
