“Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?” (Matthew 26:53, NIV 1984).

My Musings – He knew He could avoid it. All He had to do was call out to His Father. Were the legions of angels on standby waiting for the call? Or did they know the Son well enough to know that the call would not come? We don’t know what was going on behind the scenes. But we know what went down on center stage. “But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?” (Matthew 26:54, NIV 1984). Love compelled Him. I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
