A Rebellion?

“Am I leading a rebellion,” said Jesus? (Mark 14:48, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Rebellion. That is what the majority of the people wanted. That is what the majority of people expected of the Messiah. “Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?” (Luke 7:20, NIV 1984). John the Baptist finally got it. But the majority of the people did not. Now, some 2000 years later, the majority of the Jews are still expecting someone else.

Perhaps this is why the disciples fled? Jesus, the one that they had pinned their hopes on was being arrested, soon to die. “‘Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, against the man who is close to me!’ declares the Lord Almighty. ‘Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.'” (Zechariah 13:7, NIV 1984).

My Advice“Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, ‘Are you the king of the Jews?’ Jesus said, ‘My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place. You are right in saying I am a king.” (John 18:33, 36-37, NIV 1984).

We need to be a citizen of that Kingdom. We don’t have to fight in that Kingdom, only testify. “In fact, for this reason [He] was born, and for this [He] came into the world, to testify to the truth.” (John 18:37, NIV 1984). That is why we testify.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
