I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. (Philippians 4:11–12, NIV 1984).
My Musings – Wouldn’t we all like to learn that “secret?” It is not such a great mystery. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:5–7, NIV 1984).
The “peace of God” guarding “[our] hearts and [our] minds” through “prayer and petition” is the secret to being content. This can be the case “whatever the circumstances.” It is capable of relieving our anxiety “about anything.“
My Advice – “[God] will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.” (Isaiah 26:3, NIV 1984). We demonstrate our trust in God by trusting in His Son. To those who are “in Christ Jesus.” If we want peace, “whatever the circumstances,” to be able to be freed form anxiety “about anything,” that is what we must do.
