If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. (1 John 1:5–6, NIV 1984).
My Musings – This is not the verse from 1 John 1 that people remember or that they memorize. Perhaps because it reveals that we walk in darkness too often. Maybe not as extreme as the darkness that the rest of the world, but darkness nonetheless. We like to think that our “favorite” sins are not as dark as other people’s sins. Perhaps we ought to think that they are darker, because we know something the rest of the world does not-what it means to walk in the light.
My Advice – Are you walking in darkness? Is your fellowship with the Father strained? Are you living the lie? Then this is where that memory verse comes in. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:8–9, NIV 1984).
Even if your “eyes” have become accustomed to the darkness, it is still just as dark as it ever was.
